(UPDATE) Israeli Soldiers Fatally Shoot Palestinian near Tulkarm

TULKARM, February 1, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Monday shot dead a Palestinian youth near Salit settlement, built illegally on Palestinian-owned land to the south of Tulkarm, after an alleged stabbing attempt.

Israeli media Sources said that the army opened fire on 19-year-old Ahmad Toba, a local from the village of Kafr Jamal, south of Tulkarm, after he allegedly attempted to stab  Israeli soldiers.

A source at the Palestinian Red Crescent said Toba was struck by at least five bullets that penetrated his chest, neck and back. Toba’s body was later transferred to Thabet Thabet public hospital in Tulkarm.

This came less than 24 hours after Israeli soldiers fatally shot a Palestinian youth at Beit El checkpoint, northeast of Ramallah, after he reportedly opened gunfire and injured three soldiers.

The killing of Toba brings the total number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces‘ fire since the upsurge of violence in early October 2015, to 165, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
