CAIRO,
October 26, 2014 (WAFA) – Resumption of talks on a permanent ceasefire with
Israel has been delayed until mid-November due to the Egyptian army operation
in the Sinai Peninsula, Sunday said Azzam al-Ahmad, head of the Palestinian
delegation for ceasefire talks with Israel.
Al-Ahmad
told WAFA that the Egyptian side, in charge of brokering the negotiations, has
delayed the resumption of talks due to the ongoing military operation in the Peninsula
following a deadly assault last Friday in which around 30 Egyptian soldiers were
killed in a car bombing and a following armed attack.
On August 26, President Mahmoud Abbas announced an end to a 50-day
ruthless Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip, following serious negotiations
between the Palestinian and Israeli sides in Cairo. The third Israeli aggression
on Gaza resulted in the killing of more than 2,130 Palestinians and left more
than 10 thousand injured.
Whereas the announcement declared an end to the fighting, discussion
of other issues, including the establishment of an airport and a seaport in
Gaza, as well as ending the tight Israeli blockade, were put off until further rounds
of negotiations on a permanent ceasefire.
