Nablus marks Palestinian Prisoners' Day with march

NABLUS, April 19, 2026 (WAFA) – Hundreds of Palestinians in Nablus, in the occupied West Bank, marked Palestinian Prisoners' Day on Sunday, an annual occasion observed on April 17, with a march and public gathering in the city center.

The march set off from Nablus Municipality and proceeded to Martyrs’ Square in the city center, with the participation of Governor Ghassan Daghlas, head of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society Abdullah Al-Zaghari, and representatives of official, national and popular institutions.

Addressing the crowd, Daghlas stressed that the Palestinian people will continue defending their dignity and holy sites despite ongoing challenges, calling for national unity among Palestinians to counter violations and abuses against Palestinian prisoners by Israeli occupation authorities.

Daghlas said the message to the Israeli government is that its policies will fail, as in the past, in the face of steadfastness and unity.

Meanwhile, Al-Zaghari said the occasion reaffirms the centrality of the prisoners’ cause, noting that it coincides with 24 years since the arrest of Marwan Barghouti and 38 years since the assassination of Palestinian national fighter Khalil Al-Wazir.

He added that prisoners continue to face abuses in detention, which have led to the deaths of more than 100 detainees since October 2023, and called on families of prisoners and those killed to remain steadfast until freedom is achieved.
