JERUSALEM, March 29, 2026 (WAFA) – The Jerusalem Governorate warned against attempts by a group of colonists to bring animal sacrifices into the Old City of Jerusalem, in an escalatory move aimed at imposing new colonial religious rituals during the Jewish Passover holiday, while the Israeli occupation continues to close Al-Aqsa Mosque to worshippers for the 30th consecutive day.
In a statement issued Sunday evening, the Governorate affirmed that these attempts represent the culmination of using religious rituals as a colonial tool to Judaize Al-Aqsa Mosque. They aim to dedicate Al-Aqsa to the alleged Temple by offering a lamb or kid and slaughtering it within the mosque compound, thus constituting a symbolic prelude to the physical establishment of the Temple on the entire area of the mosque, according to the biblical interpretation.
The statement explained that Temple Mount organizations are exploiting the historic closure of Al-Aqsa to launch intensive propaganda campaigns on their official websites, using artificial intelligence images and videos to mobilize their extremist audience and impose the sacrifice ritual by force.
The year 2025 witnessed three unprecedented attempts to bring animal sacrifices into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. Two of these attempts involved slaughtering the sacrifices after they had been brought in, while one involved bringing in pieces of blood-stained meat. This constitutes a planned and systematic escalation aimed at exploiting religious rituals to impose a new colonial reality within Al-Aqsa and threaten its Islamic identity.
The Governorate affirmed that the religious and political objective of these attempts is linked to the doctrine of "incarnation" within the Jewish religious movement. This doctrine involves offering sacrifices to the "spirit of God" at its alleged location within Al-Aqsa, in an attempt to invoke divine intervention to achieve political goals, including the descent of the "Messiah." This is part of the ideology of the Zionist right wing and Temple Mount organizations.
The Jerusalem Governorate warned that the Zionist right wing is closer than ever to carrying out the dangerous practice of animal sacrifices inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound during the upcoming Passover holiday, which falls between April 2nd and 9th. The Governorate stressed that this poses a real threat to the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
It called for urgent action at both the local and international levels to stop attempts to impose animal sacrifices and Judaize the situation at Al-Aqsa, to ensure the protection of holy sites from any attempts to undermine their Islamic identity and status, and to end the closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
