Mass protest in Tamra against surging crime in Arab community and Israeli police inaction

TAMRA, February 13, 2026 (WAFA) – Thousands of demonstrators marched to the Israeli police station in the city of Tamra in the Galilee on Friday, denouncing the surge of crime in the Arab community and accusing Israeli police of complicity and failure to effectively combat the escalating violence, following the latest killing of 50-year-old Wafaa Awad.

The protesters chanted slogans denouncing the growing crime, condemning the Israeli police’s complicity in and failure to combat it, and holding it responsible for the proliferation of crime.

Participants called for an immediate end to the rampant crime affecting the Arab community and the city, stressing that Israeli authorities and police must assume their responsibility in addressing the crisis.

Awad was shot dead on Thursday in Tamra, in the Galilee region. Prior to that, a young woman and two young men were moderately injured in separate shooting incidents in Taybeh, Rahat, and Qalansawe.

The death toll among Arab citizens since the beginning of the year has risen to 43, including six victims in the past 48 hours and 17 since the start of this month.
