NEW YORK, October 31, 2025 (WAFA) – The United Nations reported today that 87 % of agricultural land in Gaza has been damaged, with destruction continuing to rise steadily throughout the year.
A new analysis issued by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT) revealed widespread destruction of land, greenhouses, irrigation wells, and other agricultural infrastructure, all of which are essential assets for food production and livelihoods.
The analysis indicated that this trend reflects the ongoing and repeated destruction of agricultural land and assets, noting that Gaza’s agricultural base has generally been devastated.
However, the report noted that 37 % of the damaged agricultural land in the Gaza Strip is now actually accessible for rehabilitation and cultivation after the ceasefire.
Within these accessible areas, around 600 hectares of land remain intact, offering an opportunity to rebuild food production and support livelihoods.
The analysis also revealed that damage to irrigation wells, which are vital for farming, worsened from 83 % in April to nearly 87 % by late September, further affecting Gaza’s ability to sustain crop and livestock production.
FAO said it is preparing to participate in wider, cross-sector rehabilitation efforts, but noted that its urgent 2025 appeal for the Gaza sector, amounting to US $75 million, has been funded at only 10 %.
