GENEVA, July 31, 2025 (WAFA) – Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières - MSF) warned on Thursday about the growing nutritional crisis affecting children in Gaza, stating that conditions are rapidly deteriorating due to ongoing Israeli military attacks and prolonged blockade in the region.
According to the organization, the number of children under the age of five suffering from acute malnutrition in Gaza has tripled in recent weeks. MSF medical teams are now treating an average of 25 new cases of severe malnutrition each day.
Enass Abu Khalaf, Communications Officer for the Middle East and North Africa at MSF, described the situation as “catastrophic in every sense,” citing firsthand reports from medical teams working on the ground.
UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, also issued a grim assessment, describing the situation as “the worst-case scenario for famine.” The agency stressed that the only way to prevent further deterioration is through the delivery of massive and sustained humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Abu Khalaf added: “This is an unprecedented humanitarian disaster. Our teams have been operating in Gaza continuously for 25 years, and we have never seen anything like this—not even during previous wars.”
She detailed the collapse of basic services, saying: “There is no electricity, no food, no humanitarian access. This is a systematic campaign of starvation, forced displacement, and constant military incursions. Israel is pushing civilians—including our staff, patients, and even infants—into a daily war zone.”
Abu Khleif also confirmed that an MSF staff member and his son were seriously injured in an Israeli strike that targeted a church, underlining that “there is no safe or sacred place left in Gaza.”
