Newspapers Review: Injuries, demolitions, settler attacks and school teachers on strike focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, March 7, 2023 (WAFA) – Injuries from confrontations with Israeli occupation soldiers in the West Bank, demolition of Palestinian homes, settlers attacking Palestinians and the strike in the West Bank schools were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily said four Palestinians were injured during an Israeli army raid of Aqbat Jabr refugee camp in Jericho as the demolition of Palestinian-owned homes in occupied East Jerusalem escalates and demolition orders were issued in the West Bank.

It said racist Israeli cabinet minister Itamar Ben Gvir wants to inflame the situation in Jerusalem with his call for the demolition of Palestinian homes in the city under the pretext they were built without a permit.

Al-Quds daily said Israeli soldiers danced with settlers who returned to Hawara, south of Nablus, and rampaged in the town.

It said Israel wants to expel six Palestinian families from their homes in Jerusalem under the pretext the property is owned by Jewish settlement organizations.

The third daily, al-Ayyam, highlighted the strike of school teachers and other professionals who rejected a government offer for a slight rise in salaries.

It said Israeli soldiers soldered a house in Hebron while children were inside it and the parents outside. It said when the owner of the house left it to buy goods, the army came and welded the door while the children were inside the house.

The three dailies also highlighted the speech of President Mahmoud Abbas at the UN conference for the least developed countries, LDC5, in the Qatari capital, Doha.

Al-Quds said the Palestinian freedom fighters in Israeli jails returned their meals and closed sections as part of their 21-day-long mutiny against repressive measures in the prisons demanded by the cabinet minister Ben Gvir.

It said Jewish fanatics are calling for mass break-ins into Al-Aqsa Mosque today and tomorrow for the Jewish Purim holiday.

It said the Qatari official in charge of reconstruction in the Gaza Strip, Mohammad Amadi, returned to the besieged Gaza Strip.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) called for $16 million in aid to help refugees affected by the Syria and Turkey earthquakes.

Al-Ayyam said the Israeli parliament extended the ban on Palestinian family unification for an additional year.
