AMMAN, Friday, April 2, 2021 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic-language dailies focused today on the latest data concerning the COVID-19 pandemic in Palestine, and said 2353 infections and 20 deaths were reported yesterday in the country.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said in its main story that France, Germany and the World Bank signed yesterday financing and project agreements worth $52 with the Palestinian Government to support the Palestinian response against the COVID19 pandemic at the local level.
Al-Quds said the Biden administration was gradually reinstating aid allocated to Palestine which had been cut off by former US President Donald Trump.
Al-Ayyam quoted sources from Washington as saying that US President Joe Biden was planning to cancel penalties on the International Criminal Court, imposed by Trump.
It said the Biden administration was mulling a $75 million grant in cash assistance to the Palestinian people.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the US Department of State clarified on Wednesday that it considers the West Bank to be a territory occupied by Israel.
The three dailies said Jordan yesterday called on Israel in an official letter to stop meddling in the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and respect the city's status quo.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam said the Arab League called yesterday on the European Union to pressure the occupying state of Israel not to hinder the holding of the Palestinian elections.
Al-Ayyam quoted the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland as saying that the holding of credible and inclusive elections across the Palestinian Territory, including in occupied East Jerusalem, was a crucial step towards renewing the legitimacy of national institutions.
Al-Quds said Israeli occupation police yesterday raided a tent in occupied Jerusalem where celebrations were taking place in honor of Ghazi Kanaan, a Palestinian prisoner who was just released from Israeli detention after 11 years in prison, and detained his brother.
Al-Ayyam said health authorities in the Gaza Strip have ordered new public restrictions in response to a surge in COVID-19 infections in the coastal enclave.
