Newspapers Review: The cold polar front expected to hit Palestine, coronavirus focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, February 16, 2021 (WAFA) – The cold polar front that is expected to hit Palestine starting tonight and for the next few days as well as the latest with the corona pandemic were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida dailies highlighted the weather conditions.

Al-Quds said the stormy weather is expected to hit the area tonight bringing strong winds, heavy rain and snow on high mountainous areas.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the municipalities have announced readiness to face the weather conditions.

The third daily, al-Ayyam, highlighted on its front page the latest with the coronavirus pandemic and said five people died of the disease in Palestine yesterday and 1048 new cases were recorded.

It also quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying at the cabinet meeting that vaccination of people in Palestine has been delayed for few days in light of a delay in the arrival of the Russian Sputnik vaccine.

It also quoted Health Minister Mai Alkaila saying that Israel did not allow entry of 2000 doses of vaccine into Gaza yesterday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted the cabinet statement on various issues, including Israeli violations in the occupied territories.

Al-Quds said Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian farmers in Burin and al-Lubban villages in the north of the West Bank, as the army issued demolition orders against three homes in Bethlehem.

It quoted the British Consul General in Jerusalem stressing that settlements are illegal.

It also said officials have condemned a decision to allow Israeli cellular companies to expand their coverage in the occupied territories at the expense of the Palestinian companies.

Al-Ayyam said an Israeli court has ordered the eviction of four Palestinian families in East Jerusalem for the benefit of Israeli settlers.

It said Israel forced Palestinian families in East Jerusalem to self-demolish their homes for building without a permit.

The daily said several organizations in Gaza have rejected a Sharia ruling restricting the travel of youth and women.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida also said on this topic that the office of the Chief Justice said people are not obliged to heed the sharia decision in the Gaza Strip.
