RAMALLAH, Sunday, February 14, 2021 (WAFA) – The overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Palestine recorded a decrease by 0.67 percent in January compared with December 2020, today said the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) in a report.
The PCBS said CPI decreased by 1.52 percent in the Gaza Strip, by 0.49 percent in the West Bank, and by 0.26 percent in occupied Jerusalem.
The changes in Palestinian CPI for January 2021 were traced back to changes in prices of the following expenditure sub groups compared with the previous month:

Compared with January 2020, the Palestinian CPI decreased by 0.59 percent during January 2021: The Gaza Strip saw CPI decrease by 1.13 percent, while it decreased by 0.47 percent in the West Bank, and by 0.29 percent in occupied Jerusalem.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and inability to conduct face-to-face interviews, data for Consumer Price Index were collected using mobile phones, in all of the Palestinian Governorates interviews.
International recommendations were followed in estimating the missing data, including the Group Relative Method, which is one of the best methods used to estimate the missing data, based on estimating the prices of the remaining sources for the same category. Accordingly, in case of the closure of an entire source on a temporary basis, all the prices of that source have been estimated based on the change in the prices of the sources that share the same items, which are collected from that source.
