Arab Media Excellence Award highlights AI’s Role in transforming media landscape

RAMALLAH, July 12, 2026 (WAFA) – Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League, Ambassador Ahmed Khattabi, said the 10th edition of the Arab Media Excellence Award reflects the Arab Media Ministers Council’s commitment to keeping pace with rapid transformations in the media sector.

He pointed out that the choice of the theme "Arab Media and Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges" comes in response to the changes witnessed in the global media landscape.

Speaking at the opening of the award’s judging committee meeting at the Arab League headquarters, Khattabi said that the current edition has received 154 nominations across various categories, the highest number of submissions since the award's inception in 2016.

The entries included 62 digital media works, 41 print journalism works, 36 radio productions, and 15 television productions.

He pointed out that the selection of artificial intelligence as the theme for this edition reflects its growing importance in developing media content and supporting innovation. He emphasized the importance of leveraging these technologies while preserving the message of Arab media and reinforcing Arab cultural identity.

For his part, Talal Al-Haifi, head of the judging panel for the Arab Media Excellence Award, affirmed that this year's edition comes amidst rapid transformations in the media landscape.

Al-Haifi emphasized the importance of selecting the winning entries according to the highest professional standards, reflecting the development of Arab media and its ability to keep pace with changes.

He added that the committee’s evaluation process will be guided by principles of transparency and professional assessment.
