RAMALLAH, Tuesday, February 9, 2021 (WAFA) – The ongoing Israeli demolition of shelters provided as humanitarian assistance to Humsa al-Bqaia community in the northern Jordan Valley after losing their homes in earlier mass demolitions, as well as the launch of the national dialogue in Cairo for the Palestinian political factions to prepare for the upcoming elections dominated the front-page headlines of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Ayyam daily said the occupation army carried out more demolitions in Humsa al-Bqaia and Yerza in the northern Jordan Valley.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily said the occupation once again demolishes Humsa and two mobile homes in Yerza, while the headline on this topic in the third daily, al-Quds, said the occupation demolishes Humsa al-Bqaia for the third time as injuries and arrests were reported in several West Bank districts.
On the national dialogue, al-Quds said the Cairo meeting is supposed to discuss the elections and ending the division as there is optimism for reaching an agreement.
Al-Ayyam said on this topic that the Palestinian talks kicked off in Cairo in an atmosphere of optimism.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida did not report on the national talks on its front page, but opted to make its main front-page story on the meeting of the Arab foreign ministers, and said they stressed adhering to the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Al-Quds quoted the Arab foreign minister in the headline on this topic saying that peace is a condition for ending the occupation and the two-state solution is basic to stability in the region.
Al-Ayyam had a more or less similar headline to the other two dailies on the meeting of the Arab foreign ministers.
The Palestinian cabinet meeting also received front-page headlines in the three dailies, which highlighted the decision to establish a telecom company that will provide fiber-optic service to improve the internet service.
Al-Ayyam also said the cabinet decided to keep online learning in colleges with some exceptions.
Coronavirus also dominated the front-page headlines. They said seven people died of corona in Palestine and 612 new cases were recorded.
Al-Quds said 260 new cases were recorded in East Jerusalem over two days.
The ruling of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Palestine, which caused great concern in Israel because it is going to be investigated as committing war crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories, also received front-page headlines.
Al-Quds quoted a former ICC prosecutor saying that investigating Israel’s war crimes could take 18 months.
Al-Ayyam said Israel’s foreign minister called on his American and German counterparts to pressure the ICC in order not to launch the investigation.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted a Palestinian judge in Lebanon, Fouad Bakr, saying that the ICC ruling is one of the most important decisions on Palestine and what will come after it is not the same as before.
It also quoted international experts saying that Israel should stop torturing and mistreating prisoners.
The trial of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over corruption charges was also highlighted on the front page of the three dailies.
