RAMALLAH, Monday, February 1, 2021 (WAFA) – The Israeli occupation army killing yesterday morning of a young Palestinian in the south of the West Bank was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Quds daily said that in addition to the killing of the Palestinian under the pretext of attempting to stab soldiers, the Israeli occupation authorities also ordered the eviction of Palestinians from a community in Masafer Yatta also in the south of the West Bank and carried out several detention raids across the occupied territories.
Al-Ayyam daily also said that settlers set up caravans near Salfit in the north of the West Bank in their land-grab efforts, while the third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida added that settlers planted trees in Palestinian land in the south of the West Bank in order to take it over.
Al-Ayyam also said in another story on its front page that the Israeli High Court deferred until February 7 eviction of two Palestinian families from their homes in Batn al-Hawa area of Silwan neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem in order to give the families time to respond to claims by the Israeli settler group, Ateret Cohanim, of ownership of these homes.
Coronavirus also occupied space on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies. They said two people have died of the disease in the West Bank and 403 new cases were recorded in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, including 13 cases of the new coronavirus variant discovered in several West Bank villages.
Al-Quds said four people have died of coronavirus in occupied East Jerusalem recorded over two days and 105 new infections were confirmed.
Reporting on the upcoming Palestinian elections, al-Quds daily quoted the executive director of Central Elections Commission saying that 2.5 million Palestinians are expected to register to vote and that the upcoming meeting in Cairo for the factions is going to discuss several political and technical issues.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily said Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh discussed the elections and the peace process with the Norwegian peace envoy.
Al-Quds said that the Qatari official responsible for the reconstruction of Gaza, Mohammad al-Amadi, has arrived in the Strip and that Qatar is going to contribute $360 million for the Gaza Strip over this year.
Al-Ayyam said the Qatari envoy is going to distribute the monthly aid and inaugurate the office of the Qatari Committee in Gaza.
Al-Ayyam also quoted Sami Mshasha, spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA), saying that there are positive indicators of return of the US aid to the humanitarian organization cut by the former US administration.
