RAMALLAH, Wednesday, January 06, 2021 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas’ reaction to the agreement reached between Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies with Qatar dominated the front page headlines in Wednesday’s issue of the three mainstream Palestinian Arabic dailies.

Al-Quds reported in bold red font that Al-Ula Summit, held in Saudi Arabia, turned the page on the Gulf crisis, and affirmed the centrality of the Palestinian question.

The dailies said that President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the outcomes of the summit and highly appreciated its provisions on the Palestinian question in the final communiqué.

They added that Abbas also expressed his appreciation to the leaders of the GCC countries for their firm stands on the Palestinian question and support to the Palestinian people’s sovereignty on all the occupied territories occupied by Israel since June 1967.

The killing of a Palestinian man purportedly for attempting to stab Israeli soldiers at a main West Bank junction also hit the front page headlines in the dailies.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli forces shot dead ‘Ahed Ikhlil, a resident of Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron, near Bethlehem.

Al-Ayyam said that Israeli forces “assassinated” Ikhlil purportedly for attempting to carry out a stabbing attack south of Bethlehem.

According to al-Quds, the Israeli occupation authorities advanced a plan to construct 1,406 new colonial settler units in the northern West Bank.

The dailies reported Health Minister Mai Al-Kaileh announcing that 1,191 Palestinians tested positive for Covid-19 and 20 others died of it in the occupied territories.

She was also reported in al-Quds stating that 1,804 Covid-19 patients recovered in the occupied territories.

According to al-Quds, Israeli occupation authorities tore down an agricultural shed in al-Khader town, south of Bethlehem.

It said that a group of Israeli settlers pelted Palestinian vehicles with stones in Jerusalem city.

Highlighting more regional stances on Palestine, al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam reported Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi stressing that the Palestinian cause is the core of the Middle East issues.

President al-Sisi was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida adding that resolving this cause will change the reality of the region for the better.

According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, three international companies have halted their investments in the Israeli colonial settlements.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida published a report outlining the details of successful efforts aimed at foiling the largest fraudulent sale of 11,000 donums of Palestinian land belonging to the Jerusalem-district town of as-Sawahira and located at Nabi Musa shrine.

It reported the Palestinian Meteorological Department warning that the cessation of rainfall threatens the rain-fed agriculture.

According to al-Ayyam, Israeli occupation authorities detained two Palestinians and seized a bulldozer working on the construction of an agricultural road to the east of Tayasir village, east of Tubas city in the northern Jordan Valley.
