Newspapers Review: Injury of dozens of Palestinians by Israeli soldiers highlight of the dailies

RAMALLAH, Saturday, December 26, 2020 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies published in the occupied territories highlighted in their issue published today the Israeli army crackdown on anti-settlements, anti-occupation Palestinian protests in various parts of the West Bank.

Al-Quds said in its main front-page story headline that while dozens were injured when Israeli soldiers violently attacked peaceful Palestinian protests in the West Bank, the army took measurements of a Palestinian house near Jenin in the north of the West Bank in preparation to demolish it after accusing the homeowner of killing an Israeli settler.

Al-Ayyam daily had more or less a similar headline for its main front-page story but added that residents of the village of Deir Jarir, near Ramallah, have confronted Israeli settlers who were attempting to set up an illegal settlement outpost on their village land.

The third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida, had a similar headline regarding the Palestinian protests and Israeli measures against them, and said in a story that Israeli settlers are escalating their systematic attacks in the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

The paper, however, made the coronavirus toll in Palestine as its main front-page story and said that 21 people have died after contracting the disease and 1812 new cases were recorded in Palestine in one day.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported also on the coronavirus toll at home and in neighboring countries and the world at large.

Al-Quds had the explosion in the US city of Nashville at the top of its front page and said police suspect the explosion was intentional.

It also said six people were killed in an Israeli attack on Syria.

It quoted Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan saying that while intelligence cooperation is continuing with Israel, Turkey’s differences with it is because of its policies toward the Palestinians.

Al-Ayyam quoted him saying that Turkey wants better relations with Israel.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Erdogan saying that Palestine is a red line for Turkey.

It said in another story that the Palestinian movie, 200 Meters, discusses the dispersion of Palestinian families as a result of the Israeli apartheid wall.

Christmas celebrations in Bethlehem and around the world were also highlighted on the front page of the three dailies, which agreed that Christmas this year was different than any other time due to the corona pandemic.
