RAMALLAH, Wednesday, July 29, 2020 (WAFA) – Ongoing demolitions of Palestinian houses and structures across the West Bank besides to the novel coronavirus toll dominated the front page headlines in Wednesday’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Quds reported that Israeli occupation authorities carried out a large an extensive spate of assaults against the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and across the West Bank.
It added that this latest spate included the demolition of six structures, serving eight demolition orders and seizing equipment.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida elaborated that Israeli occupation authorities demolished five structures and razed 14 dunams of land in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya.
It added that the occupation authorities tore down a carwash and seized its equipment and contents in al-Khader town, south of Bethlehem city.
According to al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida, Israeli forces set up mobile homes on lands belonging to Kisan village, south of Bethlehem city.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added that Israeli forces issued military demolition and stop-construction orders against structures in Birin village and Idhna town, east and southwest of Hebron city, as well as in Az-Zawiya town, west of Salfit city.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Israeli settlers poisoned and killed over 60 livestock in al-Auja town, near Jericho city.
News about the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic and recoveries in the occupied Palestinian territories also hit the front page headlines.
The dailies reported the Health Ministry announcing that 481 confirmed cases and one fatality was recorded in the last 24 hours.
Among the new 481 cases (recorded yesterday), there were 174 confirmed cases recorded in Jerusalem.
Health Minister Mai al-Kaileh was reported in al-Ayyam stating that 30 to 40 percent of Palestinian communities were infected with the highly contagious virus.
She was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida announcing that recoveries account for 43.3 percent of the total confirmed cases.
Highlighting the spread of the virus among Palestinians in dispersion, the Foreign Affairs Ministry was reported in al-Ayyam announcing that seven Palestinians tested positive for the virus.
It was also reported in al-Quds announcing that the total confirmed cases and fatalities among Palestinians in dispersion increased to 3,898 and 199 respectively.
On the other hand, al-Hayat al-Jadida opted to highlight President Mahmoud Abbas’ phone conversation with his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo in its main news item.
It said that Abbas brifed Widodo on the Palestinian leadership’s efforts to prevent the implementation of Israel’s illegal annexation move.
It also reported that Abbas extended his condolences to the family of US lawmaker John Lewis.
Education Minister Marwan Awartani was reported in the dailies announcing that schools in the occupied territories will restart on September 6, and 12th grade students will start on August 5.
Moreover, al-Quds provided a news analysis titled the downward trend of coronavirus cases boosts the morale of Palestinian residents of Hebron district.
Al-Quds highlighted calls for the Palestinian people, particularly Muslims, to barricade themselves at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Day of Arafah and throughout Eid al-Adha.
It added that the Higher Islamic Commission and Islamic clerics voiced their opposition to the Law on the Protection against Domestic Violence in a letter to President Abbas.
National Economy Minister Khaled Ossaili was reported in al-Quds announcing that the Palestinian economy suffered USD3 billion in losses due to coronavirus pandemic.
According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, a number of Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli Ramon Prison were placed in quarantine after two guards and other Israeli Prison Service (IPS) members tested positive for the virus.
Al-Ayyam said that Israeli police stormed anew Yabous Cultural Center and Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in Jerusalem.
