RAMALLAH,
March 31, 2013 (WAFA) – Prisoner Maysra Abu Hamdiah’s health condition is “horrifying”
and is starting chemotherapy due to the severe deterioration in his health,
said the Palestinian Prisoner Club (PPC) attorney Jawad Boulus on Sunday.
Boulus said
that he met Abu Hamdiah and the later was handcuffed to his bed, “I filed a
complaint, but the prison administration claimed that instructions prevent them
from untying him.”
Abu Hamdiah
was transferred to Soroka’s cancer center and was not allowed to meet Boulus
despite of previous coordination. Boulus was later permitted to meet Abu
Hamdiah after intervention.
Boulus said
Abu Hamdiah was surrounded by three guards, who are more suitable to star in a
“horror movie than guard a sick prisoner.”
The Ministry
of Prisoners and Released Prisoners’ Affairs lawyer said that Abu Hamdiah is in
a tragic condition. The Ministry’s lawyer said that Abu Hamdiah can’t talk and
suffers from severe pain all through his body.
A petition was
filed to release Abu Hamdiah and the Prisoners’ Ministry is waiting for the
medical committee to hold a session to decide on his case.
Abu Hamdiah
from the city of Hebron was arrested in 2002 and sentenced to 13 years in jail.
He suffers from tumors in his throat and was recently moved to hospital.
In a related
matter, 17 prisoners from Eshel prison announced an open-hunger strike in
solidarity with Abu Hamdiah.
