Mass casualties reported in Israeli airstrikes across Lebanon

BERUIT, April 8, 2026 (WAFA) – Hundreds of Lebanese civilians, including women, children, and paramedics, were killed and wounded on Wednesday in a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting different areas of Lebanon, according to Health Minister Rakan Nasser Eddine.

Air raids struck residential neighborhoods in the capital Beirut, as well as areas in Baalbek and Mount Lebanon, the National News Agency reported. The strikes reportedly occurred during peak hours, resulting in high civilian casualties.

The agency said that the strikes targeted residential areas and that the operations took place during peak hours, resulting in the killing of several civilians, including women and children.

It added that an Israeli drone targeted the town of Mimas in Hasbaya, killing two civilians instantly, and that three girls were killed in an airstrike that targeted a house in the town of Adloun.

In Baalbek, Israeli warplanes bombed civilians waiting near the cemetery in the town of Shamshtar to participate in the funeral of a local resident. Initial reports indicate that six civilians were killed and hundreds wounded. Rescue teams are working to evacuate the injured and collect remains from the targeted area.

Sources reported loud explosions in residential neighborhoods, accompanied by intense overflights of warplanes in the skies above the Lebanese capital. This caused widespread panic among residents and led to partial displacement from some neighborhoods.

Medical reports indicate that Rafik Hariri University Hospital in Beirut experienced a massive influx of wounded following airstrikes on densely populated areas. Medical staff were overwhelmed with a large number of critical injuries, including children and the elderly, further straining the capacity of the emergency and intensive care units.

Additional medical teams, in cooperation with international medical organizations, are working to provide medical support to the injured as the number of cases continues to rise due to the ongoing bombardment.

In this context, the Lebanese Red Crescent Society continues to provide emergency, ambulance, and blood support services to hospitals and the injured in various Lebanese regions affected by the escalation.

This includes delivering blood units and medical supplies to hospitals and maintaining emergency response in areas experiencing intensified attacks, in coordination with health authorities and humanitarian partners.

On March 2nd, the occupying forces launched their aggression against Lebanon, resulting in the killing of 1,530 people and injuries to 4,812 others, in addition to the displacement of more than one million people, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
