JERUSALEM, January 10, 2012 (WAFA) – Member of Israel's Knesset, Ibrahim Sarsur Tuesday strongly attacked the policy of the Israeli government and its planning and building municipality’s policy practiced in Jerusalem, according to WAFA correspondent.
This came during a meeting of the Knesset interior committee, which came following accusations by the extremist right-wing deputy, Ori Irinil, in which he accused the Israeli government and its municipality of complicity with the Arabs and of dealing with building violations in Arab city with “gloves of silk.”
“Israel is merely an occupying force whose policies, decisions and laws regarding Jerusalem were not recognized by any of the world’s countries which still consider Israel’s policy in east Jerusalem a violation of international law and a flagrant violation of international legitimacy,” said Sarsur.
He stressed that what defines the policy of planning and building municipality in Jerusalem is not the law or the principle of natural justice, nor it is the rules of law, rather it is Israel’s illegal policy, through which it seeks to impose a Jewish character on Jerusalem, insure a Jewish majority, as well as prevent any chance to divide Jerusalem under any possible peace, which will insure the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
“The official data regarding Jerusalem indicates that almost 24,000 dunums of private land were confiscated that constitutes almost 35% of the city land, where 50,000 housing units were built in a number of settlements,” he said.
Sarsur called upon the Israeli government not to interfere in the municipality’s work and to grant the Palestinian bodies the full right to plan the future of Jerusalem.
He stressed that the current situation in Jerusalem, if continued, will lead to a catastrophic explosion in the whole region, and this situation will not gain any acceptance by anyone.
