NABLUS, October 31, 2011 (WAFA) – Salem Israeli military court Monday sentenced Fatah lawmaker Jamal Tirawi to 30 years in prison, according to a press release by Fatah parliamentary bloc.
Tirawi, who was arrested in 2007, was charged with planning and executing military operations in Israel, as well as commanding in Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades. His case appeared before court a total of 80 times.
The bloc denounced the sentence, describing it as “illegal” and a violation of international law and of Tirawi’s immunity as a member-elect of the Palestinian Legislative Council.
The press release urged the International Parliament Union, the European Parliament, and the Arab Inter-Parliament Union to take immediate actions and condemn the continuous Israeli crimes against Palestinians in arresting and prosecuting Palestinian lawmakers, as well as constantly threatening to deport them.
Fatah bloc also called for working to release more than 6000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, and stressed that the issue of the prisoners remains a top priority for the Palestinian leadership.
