Slovenia raises Palestinian flag at Presidential Palace in support of Palestinian cause

LJUBLJANA, June 6, 2026 (WAFA) – Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar decided on Saturday to raise the Palestinian flag on the facade of the Presidential Palace in the capital, , in a move aimed at supporting the Palestinian cause.

The move comes after the flag was removed from the government headquarters following the assumption of power by conservative Prime Minister Janez Janša after the March 22 elections.

In a post on X, Pirc Musar said the flag will remain flying on the facade of the palace for one week before being moved indoors for display to visitors.

She said the move carries both political and moral significance in support of the Palestinian cause and international law, adding that the Palestinian flag has come to symbolize, in addition to its national significance, what she described as serious violations of international humanitarian law in Palestine and elsewhere.

The Slovenian president pointed to the continued suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, stressing that the genocide against Palestinians has not ceased and that residents of Gaza and the West Bank are not living under conditions that guarantee human dignity.

She said the raising of the flag is an expression of solidarity with the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
