RAMALLAH, September 20, 2011 (WAFA) – Gross domestic product (GDP) per capita for the Palestinian Territory was US$409 during the second quarter of 2011, showing an increase of 6.3% in comparison to the first quarter of 2011 and an increase of 7.4% in comparison to the second quarter of 2010, Tuesday reported the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).
Preliminary estimates at constant prices showed an increase of 7.1% in GDP in the Palestinian Territory in the second quarter compared to the first quarter of 2011, while estimates showed an increase of 10.6% at constant prices, said PCBS.

The value added of construction activity increased by 23.7%, while it fell by 29.0% in mining and quarrying in the Palestinian Territory in the second quarter of 2011, in comparison with the first quarter, the report said.
PCBS also reported on the performance of the main economic activities in the second quarter of 2011, registering an increase in the gross value added for Mining, Manufacturing, Water and Electricity activities, which increased by 6.5% during the second quarter of 2011 compared to the first quarter of 2011 and by 16.6% compared to the second quarter of 2010.
The report added that the gross value added for Public Administration and Defense activities increased by 1.9% during the second quarter of 2011 compared to the first quarter of 2011 and by 14.7% compared to the second quarter of 2010.
The gross value added for Construction activities increased by 23.7% in the second quarter of 2011 compared to the first quarter of 2011, and by 33.0% compared to the second quarter of 2010, noted PCBS.
For Wholesale and Retail Trade activity, the gross value added increased by 7.9% in the second quarter of 2011 compared to the first quarter of 2011, and by 7.3% compared to the second quarter of 2010.
An increase by 8.4% was registered in the gross value added for Transport, Storage and Communications activities during the second quarter of 2011 compared to the first quarter of 2011, and by 5.5% compared to the second quarter of 2010.
The gross value added for Agriculture and Fishing activity increased by 2.9% during the second quarter of 2011 compared to the first quarter of 2011, and by 2.4% compared to the second quarter of 2010, said PCBS.
For Education activity, the gross value added increased by 7.3% during the second quarter of 2011 compared to the first quarter of 2011, and by 12.7% compared to the second quarter of 2010.
PCBS also reported on a decrease in gross value added for Real Estate, Rental and Business Services activities by 2.4% during the second quarter of 2011 compared to the first quarter of 2011, and an increase by 3.8% compared to the second quarter of 2010.
