Palestinian Embassy in Malta Helps in Evacuating Palestinians from Libya

LAFLETA, MALTA, March1, 2011 (WAFA) – Palestine’s ambassador in Malta, Jubran Tawil, Tuesday said about 80 Palestinians have arrived in Malta after being evacuated from Libya.

Tawil had called on the Maltese government to approve entrance of the 80 Palestinian nationals who wanted to get out of troubled Libya.

Palestinian businessmen in Libya sent a letter to the Palestinian embassy in Malta requesting its assistance and asking for its intervention to evacuate them and their staff from the Libyan capital, Tripoli, because of the unsafe conditions in that city.

The Maltese foreign ministry approved their entry into Malta, said Tawil, who received them at Malta’s International Airport.

“The Maltese government has done everything it can to provide the necessary needs and facilities for those who arrived despite its low economic potentials and capacity,” said Tawil.

Malta is one of the Mediterranean islands near Libya and considered to be a small European country.
