Egypt Welcomes Decision by Arab Peace Initiative Committee
CAIRO, April 19, 2007 (WAFA) - Egypt welcomed a decision by the Arab peace initiative committee which called for the formation of several teams that would handle regional and international promotion efforts for the plan.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Aboul Gheit told reporters that it was vital to start efforts for peace in the region, renewing Arab's will to stick to their peace plan, ratified by Beirut's Arab summit in 2002, without any alteration.
He pointed out that the initiative called on Israel to withdraw from all Arab occupied lands in exchange for everlasting peace, saying that the plan would abide by international law and all pervious peace agreements signed with Israel.
According to the initiative, the international quartet must play a role in ensuring the rights of Arab and especially Palestinians, said the Egyptian minister.
Arabs would honor peace with Israel, stated Aboul-Gheit, affirming that the Jewish State must take steps in order to build trust with the Arab world.
