RAMALLAH, Monday, May 11, 2020 (WAFA) – A meeting for European Union countries on Thursday to discuss Israeli plans to annex occupied Palestinian land, as well as the ongoing corona crisis were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
The three papers – al-Quds, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida, said the EU is going to discuss sanctions on Israel if it proceeds with plans to annex occupied land as it said it would do starting July 1.
They said US President Donald Trump is against unilateral Israeli annexation, which he considers a blow to his so-called deal of the century.
The three papers also said that for the third day in a row, there were no cases of coronavirus in Palestine while 19 patients said to have recovered, with the papers focusing on the fact that all patients in the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem, where COVID-19 first started, have recovered and therefore the biblical city became clear of the virus.
Al-Ayyam said the closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque for prayers over COVID-19 is still in effect, as announced by the Islamic Waqf department, which is in charge of the mosque compound in Jerusalem.
Al-Quds said Israel is using the coronavirus crisis to bring in unprecedented changes to the status at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
It said Israeli army injured Palestinians in Fowwar refugee camp and in the village of Faroun in the north of the West Bank.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh praising efforts in the Arabian Gulf countries to support Palestine.
Al-Ayyam said Hamas believes there are real steps taken regarding prisoners exchange with Israel but that there is no real progress.
