RAMALLAH, Monday, May 4, 2020 (WAFA) – New corona cases in Palestine, arrival of Palestinians stuck in Jordan due to corona outbreak and return of thousands of Palestinian workers to their workplaces in Israel were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
The three papers highlighted these topics as their main front-page story and reported as well on the deaths and corona cases among members of the Palestinian communities in the diaspora.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the first batch of 360 Palestinians stuck in Jordan has entered the West Bank yesterday and more are expected in the coming days as 40,000 workers get ready to return to work in Israel.
It also said police detained 11 street vendors in the southern West Bank city of Hebron who were involved in attacking police officers doing their work in the city.
Al-Ayyam said two new corona cases were confirmed in occupied Jerusalem and three recoveries in the city. At the same time, four deaths were reported as a result of coronavirus among Palestinians in the United State and Saudi Arabia.
It said Palestine Stock Exchange resumed work yesterday after suspending transactions on March 23. It said Al-Quds index of the market declined sharply at opening.
Al-Quds daily highlighted as well Israeli plans to annex occupied West Bank territory and said a draft law was submitted to the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, affecting the Jordan Valley and the illegal settlements.
It said that Israel has officially accepted plans to seize the area around the Ibrahimi Mosque in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, which is property of the Islamic Waqf department, under the pretext it wants to build handicapped access rails.
The paper reported on the financial situation of Palestinian hospital in occupied East Jerusalem and said Princes Basma hospital on Mount of Olives has lost over 75% of its income as a result of coronavirus pandemic.
It also said a US court has dismissed a $900 million lawsuit against the Palestinian Authority.
The three papers reported on Israeli measures against Palestinians in the occupied territories, including demolition of homes and stop work orders.
Al-Ayyam said Hamas security prevented employees of the social affairs ministry from entering its Gaza office.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Palestine Investment Fund launched a project to support small business enterprises.
