RAMALLAH, Saturday, May 2, 2020 (WAFA) – Coronavirus and new cases confirmed in Palestine yesterday, as well as criticism of Israeli plans to annex occupied Palestinian territory were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam led with the corona cases and while al-Quds said the number of new cases was 10, al-Ayyam put the number at 11. Al-Hayat al-Jadida said, lower on the page, that the number was 10.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida also said that UN Special Rapporteur Michael Lynk strongly criticized Israeli plans to annex parts of the occupied Palestinian territories, with al-Hayat al-Jadida saying Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Malki welcomed Lynk’s statements on this.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida led with President Mahmoud Abbas criticizing the terror attack in Egypt that left a number of Egyptian soldiers dead.
It said Saudi Arabia has reiterated that the Palestinian question is the central Arab issue.
It also said that 40,000 Palestinian workers are getting ready to resume work in Israel starting tomorrow, but under clear coronavirus conditions.
Al-Ayyam said small Palestinian businesses hope life will return to normal in order to survive as they do not rely much on aid from the government.
It printed a picture of Palestinians praying on the second Friday of Ramadan outside the closed gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem due to the coronavirus and said in the headline that the mosque is sad on this second Friday of Ramadan normally attended by hundreds of thousands of Muslim worshippers.
Al-Quds said Jewish fanatics plan to break into Al-Aqsa Mosque on the 29th day of Ramadan, which coincides with Israel’s occupation and annexation of Arab East Jerusalem.
It said Israeli settlers took up 140 dunums of Palestinian land in the north of the West Bank for a cemetery.
