Newspapers Review: New corona cases in Jerusalem district focus of dailies

 

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, April 29, 2020 (WAFA) – Reports of six new coronavirus cases in the Jerusalem district were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

They said that one case was in a village included in the West Bank and the other five inside the Israeli-marked city boundaries.

Al-Quds highlighted as well corona cases around the world and said that Russia reported the highest number of deaths as a result of corona in one day and that Israel recorded 210 deaths.

It said that the World Health Organization has advised Middle Eastern countries not to rush returning to normal life and removing the corona lockdown.

The paper reported as well on the Israeli measures in the occupied territories including demolitions and threat of demolition in several West Bank villages.

It said that the United States has expressed readiness to recognize Israel’s annexation of occupied Palestinian territory.

Al-Ayyam said there is an inclination for revising the new retirement law recently ratified by President Mahmoud Abbas after it caused a public uproar and said that the cut of two days from the pay check of public employees as a contribution to government efforts to fight coronavirus as announced by Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh is voluntary and not compulsory.

The paper also said Israel is going to allow 80,000 Palestinians from the West Bank to resume work in Israel and to stay there instead of returning home every day.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted in its main front-page story Fatah criticism of statements by leaders in the Popular Front of the Liberation of Palestine against policies of Fatah and the Palestinian Authority.

It said a Palestinian was shot and injured inside Israel.

It also reported on the problems of corona patients who tested positive of the disease once again after they have recovered.

The three papers published a report about a Palestinian woman doctors who is leading efforts to fight coronavirus at an Israeli hospital in Haifa.
