RAMALLAH, Wednesday, April 22, 2020 (WAFA) – The strong reaction by the Palestinian presidency to the possibility of Israeli annexation of occupied Palestinian territory after forming the new government was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
The papers quoted the presidency saying that it will respond strongly and swiftly to the annexation, which would also lead to an explosion in the region.
They published reaction from the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) to the annexation plans warning that it will kill any chance for a negotiated peaceful settlement.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying that President Mahmoud Abbas is leading intensive international efforts against the annexation.
Al-Quds quoted him saying that despite the battle against coronavirus pandemic, the Palestinians will not neglect their national rights.
Al-Ayyam quoted Peace Now saying the annexation will set the base for an apartheid system.
The papers also reported on an Israeli decision to seize land owned by the Islamic Waqf in Hebron at the Ibrahimi Mosque under the pretext of preparing the area for the handicapped and for easy access.
Al-Ayyam quoted the Waqf saying that Israel is infringing on Muslim property in the occupied city.
The three papers also reported on the coronavirus pandemic and said that nine new cases were confirmed in Palestine yesterday, mainly in occupied Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip were two new cases were confirmed.
The papers also reported on the pandemic worldwide and the drop in the price of petroleum.\
