RAMALLAH, Tuesday, April 14, 2020 (WAFA) – While two of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted today the remarks by Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh on his government’s new measures to combat coronavirus outbreak, the third daily highlighted as its main front-page story the new coronavirus cases in the West Bank.

Al-Quds said that three new coronavirus cases were confirmed yesterday in the West Bank. It also gave prominence on its front page of corona-related developments in Israel, among Palestinians in Israel and in the entire world.

It reported on Shtayyeh’s remarks lower on the page focusing on him saying that the emergency measures implemented so far will remain in force for the time being.

The other two dailies, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida, also highlighted the corona issue at home and in the world, but both made Shtayyeh’s remarks as their main front-page story.

Al-Ayyam highlighted in the headline Shtayyeh announcing a number of measures to help those hurt by the emergency steps and relaxing measures regarding operation of some businesses.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida had a headline similar to what came in al-Quds regarding continuation of the emergency measures in all the areas in addition to what came in al-Ayyam headline.

It said that President Mahmoud Abbas checked on the situation of the Palestinian people in the areas hardest hit by coronavirus.

The paper reported as well on the Israeli measures against Palestinians in the occupied territories and said that Israeli forces attacked civilians, including children, in Silwan neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem and detained eight people in various parts of the West Bank.

Al-Ayyam also reported on the Israeli army measures against the Palestinians and quoted the Israeli right group, B’Tselem, saying that settler violence against Palestinian civilians has soared during the corona time.

Al-Quds said the army detained a former Palestinian lawmaker and ex-prisoners.
