RAMALLAH, Thursday, April 9, 2020 (WAFA) – As the number of corona cases drops in Palestine with only two reported yesterday number among Palestinians in the diaspora is high, particularly fatalities, as came on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Ayyam said in its main front-page story that only two new corona cases were confirmed yesterday in Hebron and Nablus in the West Bank.
While also reporting on the two cases, al-Hayat al-Jadida said, quoting the Palestinian Foreign Ministry, that 23 diaspora Palestinians have died from the coronavirus and over 500 were inflicted with the disease.
The paper’s top front-page story was about the letter sent by the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to President Mahmoud Abbas thanking him for the ideas the President sent in a letter to Guterres earlier in which he proposed a united international campaign to confront the coronavirus outbreak.
Al-Quds highlighted the two corona cases but made its main front-page story President Abbas’ instruction to his prime minister, Mohammad Shtayyeh, to start running the country on an emergency budget due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It said Israel is using the corona pandemic to further separate the Palestinians caught between Jerusalem and the West Bank, while al-Ayyam said Israel is using the situation to keep track of the Palestinian workers.
Al-Quds also said the United Kingdom has donated $1 million to help Palestine fight coronavirus.
Al-Ayyam said Saudi Arabia also sent medical supplies to Palestine in its effort to fight coronavirus.
It said three wanted Palestinians were injured in a shootout with Palestinian security forces in the northern West Bank city of Nablus.
It had a story on a wedding in Beitunia, near Ramallah, attended by only a handful of relatives and said that costs were also light.
