Palestinian prisoner dies in Israeli jails

RAMALLAH, September 25, 2016 (WAFA) – A Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails was on Sunday announced dead by a stroke, while being hospitalized in Soroka medical center.

The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Commission said prisoner Yasser Diab Hamdouni, 40, died at Soroka medical center while he was being treated for multiple diseases resulting from physical abuse by the Israeli prison guards at the time he was detained in 2003.

The commission accused the Israeli authorities of denying Hamdouni suitable medical care at times since 2003, when he started to experience several heart issues.

Shortly after Hamdouni was announced dead, the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails declared a three-day mourning and hunger strike in protest of Hamdouni’s death, which they said was a result of Israeli medical negligence.
