LISBON, September 13, 2026 (WAFA) – During her official visit to Portugal, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Shahin met today with Dima and Malak, two Palestinian girls from the Gaza Strip who were injured during the ongoing Israeli aggression and are receiving medical treatment in Portugal.

The minister listened to the two girls recount the difficult circumstances they have endured and the impact of the ongoing genocidal war in the Gaza Strip on their lives, reflecting the suffering of thousands of children in Gaza who are living through pain, fear, and loss and facing the physical and psychological consequences of the war and its impact on their childhood.

Shahin inquired about the girls’ health and the progress of their treatment, wishing them a full recovery. She affirmed that both girls, like all children in Gaza, have the right to enjoy safety, receive medical treatment, and reclaim their childhood and normal lives.

As part of her visit, Shahin also met with members of the Palestinian community in Portugal.

Shahin expressed pride in the Palestinian community's distinguished presence in Portugal and its role in supporting its people, preserving Palestinian identity, and conveying Palestine’s voice and presence, as well as in the contributions its members make to Portuguese society.

She also thanked the Palestinian community for the gathering, which brought Dima and Malak together with community members and embodied the warmth of the Palestinian home, the authenticity of its people, and the solidarity of Palestinians at home and in the diaspora.
