RAMALLAH, Friday, November 1, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli forces today detained a former Palestinian prisoner in a raid in al-Jalazoun refugee camp, north of the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Local sources confirmed that a large Israeli military force stormed the camp and ransacked several houses, turning them upside down, and then detained the former prisoner.

The 34-year-old prisoner was re-detained a month after being released from Israeli administrative detention without trial or charge.

The raid triggered violent confrontations with youngsters who attempted to block the soldiers’ access to the camp. No injuries were reported though.

Administrative detention is a procedure that allows the Israeli military to hold prisoners indefinitely without charging them or allowing them to stand trial. The administrative detention order is based on “secret evidence” that not even the lawyers of the accused have access to it. Administrative detention is renewable every 3-6 months.

The policy has been strongly criticized by the international community as well as both Israeli and Palestinian rights activists. Many Palestinians have gone on hunger strike to protest the practice, most recently Hiba al-Labadi, a Jordanian-Palestinian who has been held in Israeli prison since August 20 and on a hunger strike for 38 days.
