Israeli forces kill paramedic near Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM, Wednesday, March 27, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Wednesday morning killed a Palestinian paramedic during confrontations in Dheisheh refugee camp in the southern West Bank district of Bethlehem.

WAFA correspondent reported that Sajed Abed al-Hakim Mizher, 17, succumbed to his wounds after being shot with a live bullet in the stomach.

Confrontations erupted in the Dheisheh refugee camp and in the early morning hours when Israeli forces raided the camp to detain Palestinians.

Local Palestinian paramedics, including Mizher, who was wearing a reflective vest and uniform, were called in to provide first aid treatment to the injured.

Mizher’s cousin, 15-year-old Arkan Thaer Mizher, was also killed from an Israeli live round in the chest during an Israeli raid into Dheisheh on July 23, 2018.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Jawad Awad slammed the killing of Mizher as a “war crime which shows the Israeli military’s insistence on violating all international treaties and conventions on protection of paramedics during times of conflict.”

He called on international human rights organizations and the international community to take urgent action to protect unarmed Palestinians who are subjected to various forms of killing by the Israeli army.

Mizher’s killing brings the total number of paramedics and medical volunteers killed by Israeli forces since the beginning of 2018 to four.
