Palestinian trade union chief condemns Israeli crime against Palestinian workers south of Hebron

HEBRON, March 25, 2026 (WAFA) – Shaher Saad, Secretary General of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions, strongly condemned the attack by Israeli occupation forces, who opened fire on Wednesday evening on several Palestinian vehicles transporting workers, killing one and injuring others.

In a statement, Saad reported that Israeli occupation forces fired at a vehicle carrying workers on the road near Umm al-Khair, east of Yatta, resulting in one citizen killed and several others injured, with conditions ranging from serious to moderate. He condemned the act as a serious violation of international laws and conventions that safeguard civilians and workers while traveling and pursuing their livelihoods.

Saad called on the International Labour Organization, the International Trade Union Confederation, and the International Federation of Building and Wood Workers to assume their responsibilities, expose these crimes, and take serious measures to pressure for the protection of Palestinian workers and an end to ongoing violations against them.

He highlighted that this marks the second such crime this month, recalling an incident ten days ago in Tammun, south of Tubas, in which worker Ali Khaled Sayel Bani Awda (37), his wife Widad Othman Aqel Bani Awda (35), and their two children, Mohammad (5) and Othman (7), were killed by Israeli forces’ gunfire while returning from Nablus.

Saad emphasized that the continued targeting of workers and their families reflects a dangerous escalation, calling for urgent international intervention to halt these violations, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure a safe environment that preserves the dignity and rights of Palestinian workers.
