Newspapers Review: Prisoner dies of cancer while in custody; charges of medical negligence

RAMALLAH, Monday, September 09, 2019 (WAFA) – The main front page story in the three Palestinian Arabic newspapers covered the death in prison of Bassam Sayeh, who has been diagnosed with cancer for several years, and charges of medical negligence in the prisons.

The papers said his death caused an uproar in the prisons and throughout the occupied Palestinian territories.

In other news, Al-Quds, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israel seized 100 dunums of land in the north of the West Bank, in addition to Israeli settlers vandalizing Palestinian property and Israeli police attacking a woman and her son on Shufat refugee camp in Jerusalem.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Palestinians protested Israeli plans to take over land in al-Makhrour area of Beit Jalal, near Bethlehem.

Al-Ayyam quoted former American diplomates saying that the resignation of US envoy Jason Greenblatt leaves many questions about the future of the so-called deal of the century.

It said Israel allowed settlers to move into a house they seized in Hebron.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said an Egyptian security delegation has arrived in Gaza to talk to Hamas leaders in order to contain the tension with Israel and that Israel, according to al-Ayyam, has promised to give facilities in Gaza after the elections.

Al-Ayyam said projectiles were fired from Gaza into Israeli and an Israeli drone was targeted near Gaza port.
