Palestinian killed, 42 others injured at Gaza border

GAZA, Friday, March 08, 2019 (WAFA) – At least one Palestinian was killed and 42 others were injured, including four medics and two journalists, by live bullets or rubber-coated rounds today as Israeli forces attacked the weekly Great March of Return protests at Gaza-Israel border, according to the Ministry of Health.

The forces fired live bullets and rubber-coated steel rounds at the protesters who gathered at many encampments along the border, killing Tamer Khaled Arafat, 23 years old, and injuring 24 protesters by live bullets. Many others were injured by rubber-coated rounds.

Four medics were directly hit and injured by teargas canisters or stun grenades, while two journalists were injured by live shots.

Some of the wounded were moved to hospital and others were treated in the field hospitals.

More than 210 Palestinians have been killed and over 23,000 others injured by Israeli forces since the outbreak of the Great March of Return protests at Gaza border on March 30, 2018.

Most of the casualties occurred on May 14, 2018 when Israeli forces attacked Palestinian protesters marking the 70th anniversary of Israel’s occupation of historical Palestine, elsewhere referred to as the Nakba of 1948, and the ensuing ethnic cleansing of half a million Palestinian refugees.
