NEW YORK, May 20, 2025 (WAFA) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) called on the Israeli occupation authorities to lift their blockade of the Gaza Strip, which has escalated since March 2, stressing that "despair has reached its peak" in the Strip amid a stifling humanitarian crisis.
This came in a statement published by UNRWA on X, highlighting the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Strip, amid a stifling Israeli blockade and systematic starvation that threatens the lives of 2.4 million Palestinians.
UNRWA warned of "the worsening of the acute humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip due to the blockade, displacement orders, and intense Israeli bombardment."
It added that despair has reached its peak in Gaza, as families search for food and supplies, while thousands are forced to flee.
The UN agency said: "Israel must lift the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip since March 2."
The occupation continues its systematic starvation policy targeting approximately 2.4 million Gazans by closing the crossings to aid supplies piling up on the border since March 2, 2020. This has plunged the Strip into famine and claimed the lives of many.
