RAMALLAH, Monday, March 04, 2019 (WAFA) – A 59-year-old Palestinian mother of six held for one month by the Israeli army in very bad conditions is supposed to be freed later today after an Israeli military court upheld an appeal for her release, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).
It said the Ofer Military Court ordered the release of Suhair Barghouti, from the village of Kobar, near Ramallah and who has been held since February 5, on a 10,000 Israeli shekels (around $3000) bail.
Two previous court orders for her release were suspended awaiting an appeal by the military prosecutor.
The PPS said Barghouti was held in extremely difficult conditions at HaSharon prison in central Israel before she was transferred to Damon prison where she was held in a barren cell in very cold weather conditions.
It said she was constantly transferred in the prison bus to the court, given bad food and denied the right to change her cloths after she was refused to receive new clothing, which has worsened her condition.
Barghouti is mother of Saleh, who was killed by the Israeli army on December 12 near Ramallah, and Assem, who is in prison for allegedly killing two Israeli soldiers on December 13 in revenge for the killing of his brother.
He husband, Omar, 68, is currently held in administrative detention in Israel.
The entire family was detained at one point or another after the army killing of Saleh. Two other brothers were later released.
