RAMALLAH, Monday, March 04, 2019 (WAFA) – The visit of President Mahmoud Abbas to Iraq and his meeting with Iraqi leaders was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.
The papers printed pictures of Abbas meeting with the Iraqi prime minister and reported on his remarks at their joint press conference in which he gave prominence to Iraq’s support for Palestine over the years.
Al-Ayyam highlighted the Israeli measures against Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem, particularly the decision to banish dozens from Al-Aqsa Mosque, a Muslim holy place, including senior religious figures and employees of the Mosque, as an outcome of the conflict over using Bab al-Rahma area inside the holy compound for prayer despite Israeli objections.
This was also reported in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida, which also quoted Jordanian officials saying that Bab al-Rahma is part and parcel of Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is under Jordanian government custody.
Al-Quds quoted Saeb Erekat, member of the Palestine Liberation Organization, calling on Arab and Islamic countries to protect Jerusalem, and said that the Arab parliaments’ conference kicked off its meetings in Amman, Jordan under the title “Jerusalem, the eternal capital of Palestine.”
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted also Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah saying that the first to receive salaries this month will be the families of prisoners and those killed by Israel despite Israeli measures against the Palestinian government for paying salaries to these families that included deducing over $11 million from the Palestinian tax revenues collected by Israel.
Al-Ayyam, which reported on this as well, said in other news that an Egyptian security delegation is expected in the Gaza Strip tomorrow, with al-Quds saying in the headline that the delegation is going to bring with it Israeli answers.
The papers also reported on the situation in Algeria and the run for presidency.
