President Abbas delivers letter to Russia’s Putin

RAMALLAH, Saturday, February 23, 2019 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas delivered today a letter to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, according to Fatah official Azzam al-Ahmad.

Ahmad, who is member of Fatah Central Committee and the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), received at his Ramallah office Russia’s ambassador to Palestine, Haidar Aghanin, and gave the letter from Abbas to Putin.

He said in a statement that the letter talks about the latest developments and Israeli government cuts from Palestinian tax revenues in violation of the Paris Economic Protocols signed between the Palestinians and Israel and international law and seen as a way to extort the Palestinian leadership.

Abbas also thanked Russia in the letter for its efforts to bring the Palestinian factions together and end the division between them, particularly their latest meeting held in Moscow.

The letter comes days before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to visit Moscow and meet Putin.
