HEBRON, Thursday, February 14, 2019 (WAFA) – Dozens of Palestinian students Thursday morning suffocated from teargas fired by Israeli forces near a school in the southern West Bank city of Hebron.
Palestinian security sources told WAFA that Israeli soldiers clashed with students in the vicinity of Tareq Bin Ziad Secondary School in the southern part of Hebron city, firing teargas canisters towards the school compound causing dozens to suffocate from excessive teargas inhalation. Paramedics treated the students at the scene.
Tareq Bin Ziad School is one of nine Palestinian schools located in the H2 area of Hebron, which falls under Israeli military control. Students have to go through Israeli military checkpoints to access their schools.
H2 area, which houses 32,000 Palestinians, is considered the most vulnerable to Israeli forces and settlers’ attacks. Around 800 extremist Israeli settlers live in that area.
Israel expelled this month the only international monitors, the Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH), protecting Hebron’s H2 Palestinians from attacks by settlers and soldiers.
