RAMALLAH, January 15, 2018 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas’ wide-ranging speech during the meeting of Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Central Council in Ramallah hit the front page headlines in Palestinian Arabic dailies on Monday.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Abbas called on the PLO Central Council to revise all agreements signed between the PLO and Israel.
Reiterating that he would not accept US President Donald Trump’s administration as a peace mediator, he was reported stating: “We will not accept what the US is going to impose on us.”
He was also reported in the three dailies denouncing Trump’s deal of the century as the “slap of the century.”
He was also reported in al-Ayyam stating that Israel, through its actions, has ended the 1993 Oslo Accords.
He was also reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating that he would not accept stopping payment of allowances of Palestinians killed and injured by Israeli forces or prisoners as demanded by Israel and the US.
Chairman of the Palestinian National Council Salim al-Zanoun was reported in al-Quds stating: “The time has come to determine the future of the Palestinian Authority and reconsider the recognition of Israel.”
Furthermore, al-Quds reported that over 100 Israeli Jewish settlers forced their way into East Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, where they attempted to perform religious rituals.
It added Israeli forces conducted multiple raids into several West Bank villages and towns, causing a number of Palestinians to suffocate.
It also reported that Israeli occupation authorities have started excavations in preparation for the construction of a sky bridge that would connect East Jerusalem’s al-Thuri neighborhood with the Magharbe Gate leading to Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
It also reported that Israeli police removed the plastic covers of Palestinian stores along the way leading to the mosque compound and levied exorbitant fines on Palestinian merchants at Qalandia checkpoint.
King of Jordan Abdullah II was reported in the three dailies stating: “Jerusalem is the key to the realization of peace and the resolution of conflicts in the Middle East.”
According to al-Quds and al-Ayyam, Palestinian Ministry of Justice exhumed the body of disabled Gaza man, Ibrahim Abu Thurayeh, for autopsy to refute Israeli claims that it was not responsible for his killing.
Al-Quds added that a Hamas leader was wounded in a car bombing in the Lebanese city of Sidon. Officials point finger of blame at Israel.
