Students at CUNY continue hunger strike, demand divestment from Israel-linked firms

NEW YORK, June 4, 2025 (WAFA) – The hunger strike by students at the City University of New York (CUNY) entered its seventh consecutive day on Wednesday, as demonstrators continue to call for the university to cut financial ties with companies implicated in Israel’s ongoing military offensive in Gaza.

Support for the protest has grown steadily, with increasing numbers of visitors and supporters gathering around the university’s main campus in recent days. The encampment has evolved into a vibrant hub of political engagement, featuring public discussions, lectures, and solidarity events in support of the Palestinian cause.

Protesters have also called on the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System to divest from corporations that operate in or support Israel. In parallel, they are raising funds to assist families in the Gaza Strip amid the deepening humanitarian crisis.
