JERUSALEM, September 11, 2017 (WAFA) – The Israeli authorities Monday infringed on a Muslim cemetery outside the wall of the Old City of Jerusalem with bulldozers leveling land and threatening graves in the area, according to Mustafa Abu Zahra, head of the Jerusalem cemeteries committee.
He told WAFA that Israeli bulldozers razed land at a cemetery that included remains of 400 people killed during the June 1967 war that ended with Israel occupying East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Work on the land was stopped immediately following the intervention of the committee, which is seeking litigation to prevent future infringement on Muslim cemeteries near the Old City, said Abu Zahra.
Israel wants to clear the Muslim cemeteries that extend along the eastern side of the Old City wall in order to turn them into Jewish sites.
