He said groups of Israeli settlers went on provocative tours inside the vicinity of the holy Muslim site at a time when there were no Muslim worshipers or Waqf staff present.
Islamic Waqf staff is still protesting against the metal detectors that Israeli authorities installed on al-Aqsa mosque entrances.
Extremist Jewish groups called on the Israeli government to allow them to hold up the Israeli flag on the top of al-Aqsa mosque, as a sign that the site is seized by them.
Similar extremist groups announced its intention to organize a monthly march that goes from the Western Wall to the Old City, stopping in the area of Bab al-Asbat (Lion’s Gate) in order to “crush Palestinian protests” that are present at the area.
Israeli police closed the mosque last Friday for Muslims following an attack outside its gates that left three alleged attackers and two policemen dead.
