Newspapers Review: Weekly protests and clashes with Israeli soldiers focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, July 1, 2017 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted on their Saturday front page the weekly anti-wall, anti-settlements protests in the West Bank and Israeli army crackdown on the protests usually leaving several injured and suffocated.

The main front page story headline in al-Quds said: “Two children and a youth injured by bullets during the demolition of a monument for the martyr Nazzal in Jenin and a protest against settlements in Kufr Qaddoum.”

Al-Ayyam’s main front page story headline read: “Injuries during confrontations with occupation forces and the destruction of a monument for the martyr Nazzal in Jenin.” The sub-headline read: “Demolition orders in Silwan.”

The headline for the main front page story al-Hayat al-Jadida also said: “Three injured by bullets in Jenin and Kufr Qaddoum and the occupation removes a monument for the martyr Khaled Nazzal.”

Other front page headline in al-Hayat al-Jadida included:

“Today is the 23rd anniversary for the return of the martyr President Yasser Arafat to the homeland.”

“The President mourns the fighter Adel Abdul Karim Yassin and calls his family with condolences.”

“Hamas prevents Hillis from going to Ramallah.”

“Rjoub: Hamas should explain the reasons for its meetings with those who are outside the nationalist rank.”

“Documents that show 30 medical referrals for one patient are proof of Hamas lies.”

“Abu Diyak: Accepting the project of an entity in Gaza means giving up on the rights of our people.”

“Three people killed in the West Bank in different incidents.”

Some of the above headlines were also repeated in in al-Ayyam, which also included:

“The President started an Africa and Europe trip.” (The trip starts in Ethiopia for the African summit, then Tunisia and France, and ends in Egypt, according to the paper.)

“Netanyahu’s office strongly criticizes Erekat after refusing to acknowledge that Hamas and the Popular Front as terrorist organizations.”

“Germany agrees to sell Israel three nuclear submarines.”

“India’s prime minister to visit Israel this week.”

“Efforts to raise US aid for Israel by $588 million.”

“Israeli jets attack Syrian army post in the Golan.”

“Free Syria Army: Israel getting ready to storm the Yarmouk basin.”

“Daesh leader mourns al-Baghdadi and others post pictures of his corpse.”

“The Naqab: The occupation decides to demolish homes in Umm al-Rihan.”

The headlines in al-Quds that did not also appear in the other dailies include:

“Plans to build another floor under al-Buraq Wall plaza.”

“Youth found hanged to death in his Aqbat Jabr refugee camp home.”

“Youth killed when run over by car north of Hebron.”

“Israeli general: The wall Tel Aviv is building on the Gaza border looks monumental, but a failure in substance.”
