RAMALLAH, June 19, 2017 (WAFA) – Fatah Central Committee discussed in its meeting held Sunday in Ramallah the upcoming visit of two US officials to the region to follow up on efforts to revive the peace process, Central Committee member Jamal Moheisen said on Monday.

He told Voice of Palestine radio that the meeting headed by President Mahmoud Abbas discussed the planned visit by special US envoy Jason Greenblatt and White House senior adviser Jared Kushner to Palestine and Israel this week.

Greenblatt is expected to arrive on Monday while Kushner arrives two days later.

The two officials are expected to hold separate meetings with Abbas in Ramallah and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.

Moheisen said President Abbas is going to stress in his meeting with the US officials the Palestinian position of adherence to United Nations resolutions on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and their implementation in any future peace process.

Meanwhile, Saleh Rafat, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), expressed pessimism in an interview with Voice of Palestine regarding the revived US efforts to kick start the peace process.

He said that there are no indications from the US administration that it is ready to compel Israel to abide by international resolutions to resolve this conflict, pointing out that the US administration has not declared its commitment to these resolutions yet.

In addition to discussing the US peace efforts, the Fatah Central Committee also discussed foreign interference in Palestinian affairs, particularly Qatar’s support for Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, as well as support by other countries to ousted Fatah member Mohammad Dahlan.

Moheisen said that successful negotiations with Hamas to end the 10-year-old division between the Palestinians require an end to the work of the administrative body set up by Hamas in Gaza and to enable the reconciliation government to carry out its tasks and go to elections.

Meanwhile, the Central Committee agreed to add President Abbas’ spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, to its list of members.
